Go live and the Workshop

Going live puts your world on KHIM so players can join it. You do it from KHIM Engine; everything after that - making it public, pictures, your team, versions, players, numbers - is in the Workshop on the website, khim.net/create.

Go live for the first time

  1. Sign in to KHIM Engine (Home > Sign in with browser).
  2. Save the world.
  3. Press Go live at the top right, or Alt P.
  4. Keep Create a new game picked on the left. Fill in:
    • Name - 3 to 60 characters;
    • Description - what players read on the game's page;
    • Players per server - 1 to 100.
  5. Press Create.

A new game starts private: only you and your team can play it. When it is ready, open the Workshop > Worlds > your world > Settings and set Visibility to public.

Update a game

Press Go live again and pick the game under Your games, then Overwrite. After that, Alt P updates the same game in one click.

What players notice:

  • The game's name, description, likes and visits stay as they are.
  • New servers run the new version straight away. Servers already running keep the old version until they empty, so nobody is thrown out mid-game. To move everyone at once, shut the old sessions down from the Workshop's Live page.
  • Every Go live is a numbered version. Workshop > the world > Versions lists them, and Restore puts an earlier one live again (as a new number).

Limits

A world may be 16 MB and 10,000 parts at most. A ClientScript or a Module that players need must be under 64 KB of text - see Limits and security.

Edit live

Edit live (left of Go live) changes a published game while people play it. Every part you move, turn, resize, paint, add or delete - and the Lighting - reaches the players on that server at once. Scripts and the objects on parts change with the next Go live. Press it again to stop; if anything changed, stopping goes live again so new servers have the changes too.

Only the owner, admins and developers of the game can edit live.

The Workshop

khim.net/create is where you look after what you make. Its tabs:

TabWhat it has
OverviewKHIM Engine's download, a getting-started checklist, invitations, your numbers and recent activity
WorldsEvery world you own or are on the team of. Each world has Overview (players, plays, Health), Versions, Settings and Team
AssetsYour models in the Asset Library, and your worlds' pictures
LiveRunning sessions, who is playing, kicks and bans, and the world's Console (script output and errors from the live servers)
AnalyticsPlays, sessions, players, new and returning players, daily/weekly/monthly players and retention
UGCAvatar items you make and sell
RevenueWhat your items earned

Settings

The owner and admins can change the name, description, visibility (public or private), who can join (everyone, or only the owner's friends and the team), players per server, and the pictures - an icon (512 px square) and a thumbnail (1280 x 720). Pictures are reviewed by a KHIM moderator before players see them; the page says where each one stands.

KHIM Engine can make the pictures for you: File > Game Settings > Use the view renders the current view.

Team

Invite people by username and give each a role:

RoleCan
OwnerEverything, and manage the team
AdminSettings, Go live, moderate players, shut sessions down, analytics
DeveloperGo live, open the world in KHIM Engine, analytics and the console
ModeratorKick, ban and unban players

Admins and developers see the shared world in KHIM Engine's Home under Your games, open it and press Go live like the owner.

Health

A world's Overview has a Health box that lists what needs looking at, worst first: a takedown, sessions that stopped unexpectedly, script errors in the last 24 hours, a picture that was not approved, sessions still on an older version.

Players

From Live: Remove sends a player home from a session (they can join again); Ban keeps them out for an hour, a few days, or for good, with a reason they read and a note only the team sees. Every kick, ban and unban is in the world's moderation history. Nobody on the team can be kicked or banned.

What players see

A public world has a page on khim.net and appears in the app's lists. Players press Play on the website or in the KHIM app - on Windows, Mac, Android, iOS or straight in the browser - and KHIM finds them a server.
