The interface
KHIM Engine's panels are named as in Unity and Godot. This page is a tour; each part has its own page after it.
Home
What you see when KHIM Engine starts, or with File > Home. A side bar with New world and Open..., then three tabs:
| Tab | What it holds |
|---|---|
| Places | Continue (the world that is open), Pinned and Recent worlds on this computer, each with a picture of it from above. Hover a row for its pin and ... menu: Open, Pin, Rename, Show in folder, Duplicate, Remove from the list |
| Templates | What a new world can start as: Flat ground, Obby, Coin Rush, Sandbox |
| Your games | Your games on KHIM, and the ones you are on the team of. Click one to open its world |
Ctrl PageDown / PageUp switch tabs; Ctrl F searches the tab.

The top bar
The menus - File, Edit, Selection, View, Insert, Run, Plugins, Help - then the world's name (a dot after it while there are unsaved changes), Play / Play Here / Run in the middle, and Undo, Redo, Save, the command search, Edit live, Go live and your account on the right. Every menu item shows its shortcut, and is greyed out when it cannot be done right now.
The view
The world as players will see it, lit and shadowed the same way. Click a part to select it, Ctrl-click to add to the selection, drag on empty space to box-select. The view cube in the corner turns the camera to look along an axis.
The tool dock along the bottom of the view: Select, Move, Scale, Rotate, world or local handles, snapping (the magnet), the grid, + to insert anything, Color, Anchor and CanCollide.
Hierarchy
Everything in the world as a tree. At the top are the containers - World, ReplicationService, ServerService, ClientService, StorageService, UI - see How a world is organised.
- Click, Ctrl-click, Shift-click to select; Up / Down walk the rows.
- Drag any row onto another to put it inside. Anything can go inside anything: a value inside a script, a sound inside a button, a Module inside the object it belongs to.
- Hover a row for its + (insert inside it), its eye (hide in the editor) and its lock (can't be clicked in the view).
- A script with a problem has a red or amber dot. Something that does nothing where it is (a Script inside UI, a Light on no part) is dimmed, and its tooltip says why.
- Ctrl Shift X searches by name or by kind ("spawn", "script", "model").
Inspector
The properties of what is selected: a part, a script, an object, a UI object, or Lighting (select it in the Hierarchy). Sections fold away; Search properties at the top (Ctrl F) shows only matching rows.
- With several parts selected, a coral dot marks a property they differ in, and a change applies to all of them.
- Right-click a property's name to reset it.
- At the bottom: the part's Tags and Attributes (Tags and attributes).
- During a test, properties are read-only - except the character's Body (Health, WalkSpeed, JumpPower), which you can change to try values live.
Console and Problems
The Console (Ctrl J) shows print and warn from a test - the server's lines green, the player's blue, warnings orange, errors red. Every line says which script and line it came from; click it to go there. A script error explains common Luau messages in plain words.
Under the Console is the Command Line: Luau run straight on the world being edited.
Problems lists every script's errors and warnings at once - syntax errors, the last test's errors, lint warnings and type problems - whether the script is open or not.
Assets
Three tabs: Models | Sounds | Pictures. Your world's own uploads, KHIM's built-in ones, and the Asset Library. Drop files onto the panel to upload them. See Models, pictures and sounds.
Script tabs
Double-click a script to open it in a tab over the view. The editor checks the script as you type, suggests KHIM's API and the world's objects, and shows what a name is when you rest the mouse on it. See Scripting basics.
Finding anything
Command palette - Ctrl K (Cmd K on a Mac). Type a few letters of any command (play, ins prm for Insert Prompt, anchor) or of any part, script or object in the world, then Enter. Commands you used recently come first.
Search the world - Ctrl Shift F. Names, texts (a Label's, a Prompt's...), and every line of every script. Replace All replaces in scripts.
Keyboard shortcuts - F1 shows them all on one sheet. See Keyboard shortcuts.
Your work is safe
- Undo (Ctrl Z) goes back 100 steps.
- An autosave every five minutes while there are unsaved changes, and before every test: File > Open an Autosave.
- Earlier saves: before a save replaces the file, the old one is kept - the newest 20 of each world. File > Open an Earlier Save.
- After a crash, KHIM Engine offers to recover the autosaves of the session that crashed.
